EXPLORING THE SPACES AND STORIES OF TODAY, TO INFORM AND SHAPE THE EXPERIENCES OF TOMORROW.

'Out of Space' is the strategy and foresight arm of our practice. Here, we research and study the forms and narratives of our designed environments (physical, digital, 'phygital' and all in between), and report and consult on how spaces - could/should - respond to shifting needs and behaviours.

‘Future scenarios’ such as the role of experiential, what's next for (co)working / (co)living, and new formats for retail are amongst the many topics on our radar.

Clients and collaborators call on us to gain understanding and unearth opportunities. From facilitating workshops to presentations or thought-leadership pieces, we draw insights to support pitches, substantiate new business proposals, inform design processes or simply challenge what we know.

CASE STUDIES:

The below have, where relevant, benefitted from the expertise and insights of our long-standing collaborators - including the brilliant minds of Beth Shepherd, Claire Healy, Alex Torrey, Namrata Krishna, Bee Jacobs, and more.

ExE

For our clients of many years at MKTG, we created ‘Experience x Evolution’: a series of foresight reports, keeping their teams abreast of emerging trends in experiential, brands, retail - and beyond.

MKTG CHICAGO

Grown from the above ExE exercise, we partnered with the Strategy Team at MKTG Chicago, to create monthly online publications and presentations. Here, we explored consumer behaviours, shared learnings from global industry events, and reported on innovative spatial design across sectors.

CONVERSE
BRAND SPACE

As a preamble to our Cons LDN project, we were asked by experiential gurus Amplify to look into what a Converse 'Brand Space' might look like. The research explored how a space can be a platform for self expression and, in this case, facilitate and showcase UK youth culture. The findings laid the foundations for the inspiring multi-use creative hub that ensued.

RETAIL FUTURES

Building on our insights in ‘future retail scenarios’, we conceptualised opportunities for the Beats brand, studying all retail settings - from their stores and windows, to pop-ups and experiences.

ACTIVATIONS

On a more light-touch level, we can pull together ideas for clients pro-actively. For example, we crafted a concept to inspire and suss-out opportuntiies for a live music activation:

...and a range of little-to-large scale concepts for ‘happenings', to expand the thinking ahead of the Beats Pill product launch:
